One Community is founded on principles of freedom, love, and acceptance in the spirit of great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and the Dalai Lama. Our purpose is to create a place where people feel free to be themselves as we live life For The Highest Good of All and practice the abolishment of prejudice, judgment and fear within ourselves. We see this as a place of guidelines instead of rules, communication instead of condemnation, and a celebration of the diversity that is humanity. We create this place by continuously empowering every individual in their personal growth and maintaining an open dialogue while we define, understand, and respect each other’s feelings and boundaries.

JUST ONE EXAMPLE

Let’s take nudity as a common example of something frequently discriminated against in Western society. In Europe openly breastfeeding is considered normal and beautiful. At freedom celebratory festivals people of all shapes, sizes, and ages walk around totally naked while other people dress in elaborate costumes. And in naturalist communities nudity is not associated with sexuality; the “dirtiness” and “taboo” does not exist along with all the other commonly associated body image issues. Yet in our society, just a woman breastfeeding or going topless is grounds for someone getting offended. In other societies still, it is forbidden for women to show their arms or legs in public.

Why?

This pattern of other people being whatever version of themselves that works for THEM that generates offense, distaste, and judgment in others can be seen as foundational to bigotry in general. It is one thing to have someone directly say or do something to you, and another thing entirely to see it happening on the television, on the street, or even right in front of you and claiming injury. We are creating an environment that recognizes this difference and helps us to help each other take ownership of our feelings while celebrating differences of world view and lifestyle.

IN THE CONTEXT OF FREEDOM, WHAT THIS MEANS

● People have the choice to remain respectful of other people’s feelings
● People have the choice to speak up if they feel their feelings are not respected
● People hold each other accountable to identify true affront versus judgment or fear
● People recognize and release the negativity that comes with preconceived notions and generalizations

A COMMITMENT TO PEOPLE BEING ABLE TO BE THEMSELVES

One Community is committed to Freedom and allowing people to be themselves. We decide by consensus what guidelines should exist, grounded in the values and principles agreed to by One Community members, and are entering into our inception with a clear understanding, in the spirit unconditional love that the following practices do not deserve judgment:
● Age
● Race
● Gender
● Religion
● Political Views
● Sexual Preference
● Lifestyle Practices (nudity, polygamy, appearance, etc.)
● Anything that does not cause harm or injury to another

It is part of our pledge to each other, and to the world we are capable of creating, to help each other live life to the fullest and let go of the egoic illusion of other people being able to physically or emotionally hurt us through their thoughts or actions not directly related to us. We do this by freeing other people from OUR OWN judgments, preconceived notions, and expectations and letting them be themselves with the knowledge that we are all adults and capable of communicating with love and empathy if we feel our boundaries are being pushed. We also do this by recognizing we are all really ONE and any judgment upon another is truly just judgment upon ourselves.
