Architects of the Future

architects of the future, engineers of the future, creating our own future, open source future, free-sharing a new future, One Community, we are One Community, solution based thinking, open source project-launch blueprinting, sharing the future, the future is ours, for The Highest Good of All, sustainability non-profit, sustainable world, sustainable living, eco-living, eco life, open source, teacher/demonstration village

Let’s be our own architects of the future and create a global cooperative for The Highest Good of All. We think that most of us sustainability-minded people know and agree that the technology and resources exist on this planet to feed, house, and supply energy for every man, woman, and child. We think most of us also know and understand that a much more ecologically friendly way of living is possible too. Even better, it seems that there is a swiftly growing movement of people who want and agree that it is a worthwhile goal to create a more fulfilling, fun, and meaningful life for ourselves, our friends, and our families. Let’s work together and create all of this!

ARCHITECTS OF THE FUTURE OPEN SOURCE SHARING SUSTAINABILITY AS A PATH TO GLOBAL TRANSFORMATION

We are now fortunate to live in a day and age where the internet has given us access to almost unlimited knowledge and information resources. Almost anything you want to know can be referenced and researched without even leaving your home. What if we used this wonderful information access and sharing technology to create an open source and free-shared global archive specifically purposed for teaching people how to experience living happier while saving money by building it on a sustainable infrastructure? This would be good for the individual, good for the planet, and good for all our future generations too. It also seems to make sense that it would become an idea that would spread on its own.

This idea is starting to make sense to more and more people and our non-profit organization called One Community is just one of many that are working specifically towards this goal. The One Community path to making it happen that we also encourage others to implement, or help us to implement, is open source project-launch blueprinting and free-sharing a duplicable model.

OPEN SOURCE PROJECT-LAUNCH BLUEPRINTING

“Open Source”: Creating without copyrights, patents, or limits of use of any kind

“Project-launch Blueprinting”: Creating to provide blueprints, tools, tutorials, and as many resources as possible to streamline, simplify, and facilitate the launching of additional projects

CREATING THE CHANGE WE KNOW IS POSSIBLE

With a mentality of operating as architects of the future intent upon building and living for The Highest Good of All, we have create and are implementing a 4-phase strategy that we feel is capable of positively impacting life on this planet for everyone. The four phases to accomplish this are:

  1. Demonstrate a better way
  2. Open source project-launch blueprint it all so people can duplicate it
  3. Invite the world to participate
  4. Leverage universal appeal to facilitate global expansion
PHASE I: DEMONSTRATE A BETTER WAY

Built on a foundation of affordable and artistic eco-housing, self-sufficient food production, and off-grid energy, we are creating a living model that revolves around a consciousness focused on The Highest Good of All, sustainability to minimize living expenses, and a culture of personal growth and fulfilled living that we feel most people will consider as significantly more fun and rewarding than traditional models. Specifically, what we are open source project-launch blueprinting and purposed to build and share is: Food Infrastructure, Energy InfrastructureHousing Infrastructure, Adult and Child Education, For Profit and Non-profit Business Development, A Diverse Recreation and Personal Growth Model, and Stewardship.

PHASE II: OPEN SOURCE PROJECT-LAUNCH BLUEPRINTING

With the desire to spread working models as fast as possible, and recognizing that “a better way” will differ greatly for different people, we are creating everything listed above for maximum adaptability and duplication as individual components or as complete teacher/demonstration communities, villages, and cities. One Community is only one example of what is possible and everything we are designing is specifically being created so others can duplicated it, do it better, or use it as a launch-point for something entirely different.

PHASE III: INVITING THE WORLD TO PARTICIPATE

Everything we are open source project-launch blueprinting is designed to invite the world to participate by duplication as either individual components or complete teacher/demonstration communities, villages, and cities that will be able to be built and duplicated almost anywhere in the world. Inviting people to participate in helping design, build, and evolve these ideas is something we consider for The Highest Good of All, an aspect of One Community that we are encouraging others to embrace, and specifically foundational to the world changing goals of our organization. With this in mind, this model is built on a global collaboration and options for membership, consulting/partnering, and eventually scholarships, weekend learning/work options, and eco-tourism – all of which, except the eco-tourism, are operated on time investment instead of monetary investment.

PHASE IV: UNIVERSAL APPEAL AND GLOBAL EXPANSION

As One Community continues evolving and establishing ourselves, everything we are doing (and encouraging similar models to do) is creating and promoting the engine to increasingly inspire people with the concept of open source and sustainable living for The Highest Good of All. We are doing this to create mainstream appeal and our path to achieving this appeal is demonstrating a happier, more affordable, and ecologically friendly model of living that can be built anywhere in the world. Open source project-launch blueprinting it all is how we believe the model will spread and, possibly most importantly, that it will predictably spread even faster in the areas where it is needed most because building restrictions, the cost of land, and materials costs are in most cases lower in these areas.

architects of the future, engineers of the future, creating our own future, open source future, free-sharing a new future, One Community, we are One Community, solution based thinking, open source project-launch blueprinting, sharing the future, the future is ours, for The Highest Good of All, sustainability non-profit, sustainable world, sustainable living, eco-living, eco life, open source, teacher/demonstration village

ARCHITECTS OF THE FUTURE – BUILDING IT SUMMARY

In this day and age we have the ability to take the technology that currently exists to live and create for The Highest Good of All and build a bridge between idealism and pragmatism through a solution creating model that creates additional solution creating models. While we are calling it One Community, it could be called anything and what we’ve already created could be the launch point for something totally different. What we think is most important, and makes most sense for moving the entire human organism forward, is founding it on what we feel most people will consider a more fulfilled and enriching living experience and open source project-launch blueprinting and free-sharing everything so people can duplicate it and evolve it as easily and efficiently as possible. Why? Because if we can make it appealing enough, affordable and easy enough to duplicate, and well-enough known, then this idea will spread and duplicate and diversify itself until we reach the necessary ‘tipping point’ in the participation of humanity that will lead our entire species to a new Golden Age of cooperation, collaboration, innovation, creativity, sustainability, and increased peace and happiness for all people. This is what we are aiming for with One Community and we invite everyone who agrees that this is a worthwhile goal to participate in helping make it happen!

FOOD INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE

We are beginning with open source project-launch blueprinting 3 different types of sustainable food production systems: a Large-scale Food Production Aquapini2 different “backyard version” Zen Aquapini designs, and 3 separate maximally-affordable Walipini Greenhouses. We updated the page describing all of them:

OPEN SOURCE EARTHBAG VILLAGE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The purpose of the earthbag village (Pod 1) is to demonstrate maximum affordability and a diversity of earthbag designs that will be able to be duplicated almost anywhere in the world without the need for permits. We will begin building Pod 1 within the first month as a living/rental pod for the initial Community Members, visitors, and students. We are now working on 3D rendering of all the different components of this first village model. Here is this week’s blog about this with images:

EDUCATION FOR LIFE UPDATES

The two new pages we have completed are the Communication and Language Skills Curriculum page and the Sharing, Giving, and Receiving Curriculum page. Both of these pages fall under the broader “Sharing” category of the Curriculum for Life component of the open source Education for Life Program and contain links for input from anyone else interested in international cooperative education, open source development of education, and making the pages and program better! We’ve also finished the foundations of the Contribution and Collaboration curriculum pages.

One Community’s Online Project Management Tool Journey (Part 2 of 3)

Continued from Part 1

As One Community members learned and familiarized themselves with the ACE Sheet they were posting their contributions and progress and we saw a significant improvement in our ability to stay organized, motivated, and effective. The ACE Sheet was visually appealing, fairly easy to read and modify, and each member had their own unique color so we could see who was working on what.

Additionally, during the consensus training (with facilitators Community consultants Dr. Connie Stomper and Jack Reed) that led to the creation of the ACE Sheet, we had also engaged creating a plan to free up Jae’s time so that he could more effectively work on the broad diversity of tasks that only he could do, to determine what specifically counted as tangible contribution, and to determine how to handle members who have not been contributing or may be drifting away from the project.

Through consensus came the first structure for the Welcome Teams, Project Teams, and the P.E.A.C.E Agreement.

Welcome Teams

project management online | team management skills | project management app | online project management tool | software project management tools

Since the beginning of One Community, weekly Monday night calls were hosted to check-in with the team, brainstorm ideas, share announcements, determine the next course of action, and talk about anything else that needed to be discussed. These calls usually last for at least 2 hours, sometimes 4, and on rare occasions 5 or even more! Once the team got larger, not only were the calls getting longer, but socialization and bonding time greatly increased too.

At this point, Jae was doing all of the welcome calls for new members, check-ins on how each team member was doing, checking to see if anyone needed any assistance on anything and if there were any questions, and all the administration related to follow-up on contributions as well. The establishment of the Welcome Teams delegated a large chunk of these activities.

Each Welcome Team at that point included about 3-4 people and the volunteer or appointed facilitator would facilitate that group. Anyone who wishes to can become a facilitator or even go on a rotation between the members if they so choose. Every couple of months, the Welcome Teams also rotate so that eventually every team member gets to know every other team member. The Welcome Teams also have their own weekly calls in addition to One Community’s weekly Monday night calls.

As a result of the implementation of the Welcome Teams, much of the management tasks can be delegated to the facilitators of each team and this increases efficiency. With this, more members are taking on a larger role in the project, it ultimately saves everyone time, there is more “community” to One Community, more bonding and connecting with our One Community Family, more accountability, and more forward moving energy.

Project Teams and Project Flow Charts

project management online, team management skills	, project management app	, online project management tool, software project management tools

As One Community continues to expand, the amount of projects continue to expand. Another major evolution for One Community was the creation of Project Teams and appointment of Project Team facilitators for these teams to help monitor the productivity and forward movement of specific projects across the diversity of components One Community is engaging. By having separate Project Teams, we can see how much energy is being put into each area of One Community as well as reflect and review on how we can delegate our time more effectively.

Another related implementation that came a later was the Project and Component Flow Charts created at the second consensus training (also facilitated by Community consultants Dr. Connie Stomper and Jack Reed). Sometimes, there are tasks that can be a challenge to organize, document, and keep moving. To ensure that the tasks at hand are moving One Community forward, we have constructed a format to handle larger projects and to keep all the data and advancements documented. This is what it looks like and you can visit the page about it for more details.

*Note* Most smaller tasks do not need this chart in order to be effective.

P.E.A.C.E Agreement

software project management tools, project management online, project management app, online project management tool, team management skills

As One Community went through the initial phases of trial and error and collaborating on the best way to maintain accountability and team leadership development, the P.E.A.C.E (Peaceful Energetic Assessment of Community Experience) Agreement was also created (like the Welcome Teams and Project Teams) during the first consensus training. We’d realized by that first consensus training that to maintain the forward movement and energy of One Community, a consistency of communication and contribution is necessary. We’d realized and experienced that without what became the P.E.A.C.E. Agreement, dozens or even hundreds of hours could be spent in discussion on what the best method would be to handle the issue of accountability and contribution.

The P.E.A.C.E Agreement is our solution and our way to check-in with members who may not be fully present with One Community. By offering assistance and communication, a solution can now be found that will always be for The Highest Good of All including, if necessary, a member choosing or being asked to leave the team. With these additions in place, the clarity of One Community increased dramatically. Most of the challenges now have a solution, and we have a system that is functional, convenient, efficient, and effective.

To be continued in part 3…

GREEN BUILDING AND DESIGN 3D PROGRESS

Here’s a quick snapshot of the green building and design process moving into 3D rendering! One Community is a 100% unpaid volunteer organization and this amazing open source project-launch blueprinting work is being contributed by John Bassist, someone who heard about our project on Facebook and decided to volunteer his time and expertise to what you see here. John is one busy guy, in addition to helping us with our project he also organizes and maintains an e-group hub wiki as well as a public Facebook fan page where you can see these images and many more as he develops them. You can also participate there in the on-going conversation!

TROPICAL ATRIUM ARTISTIC FEATURE DESIGN

Here are the images of one of the most complex aspects of the Tropical Atrium being designed: the hands that will make up the internal growing terraces and artistic beauty of this space until all the plants and trees have really developed. What John has done here is taken an actual hand structure and started designing it like its own series of buildings so that the joints will be able to be manipulated and positioned as needed. This is extremely important is because it will allow us to move this non-traditional green building and design shape around to accomodate the combination greywater and hot water heating systems we will be building inside of them while simultaneously working to maximize surface area and maintain the artistic presentation. Having this flexibility (literally) is absolutely essential to the success of these structures and how they function with the rest of the building and water utilization for the earthbag village.

Being able to manipulate each of the joints with this method of 3D rendering is going to be hugely beneficial.

Highest Good for All One Community Progress Update for the Week of 4/8/2013

Here is the One Community Highest Good for All progress update for the week of 4/8/2013 including the video overview, most recent architectural images, links to the most recently completed pages, and more!

HIGHEST GOOD FOR ALL VIDEO UPDATE FOR THE WEEK OF 4/8/2013

HIGHEST GOOD FOOD UPDATE

This last week for One Community has been heavily focused on food infrastructure progressDoug Stenhouse (Architect and Water Color Artist) spent the whole week adapting, updating, and finalizing the site layout for all the aquapini, zen aquapini, and walipini structures. These final designs went through three major iterations and redesigns:

SUSTAINABLE FOOD INFRASTRUCTURE SITE PLAN LAYOUT #1

This first iteration was an indicator that we had too many retaining walls and needed to improve our ability to move around the site and structures for maintenance and ease of use.

SUSTAINABLE FOOD INFRASTRUCTURE SITE PLAN LAYOUT #2

This second iterations was true brilliance from Doug! This general design is ultimately what we ended up going with but we wanted to move the solar panels off the water, increase the insulation of the earth around the corners of the subterranean structures, increase seating for the amphitheater this design provides, and we realized we could use the same sloping and planting of the earth to eliminate almost all of the driveway retaining walls.

SUSTAINABLE FOOD INFRASTRUCTURE FINAL SITE PLAN / LAYOUT

Here is the final layout of the structures including a cross section drawing looking South. This final design features:

  • ADA accessible
  • Water collection from all surfaces
  • Easy vehicle access for food removal from all structures
  • Elimination of almost all retaining walls by replacing them with sloped areas
  • Sufficient distance between all structures to avoid shading of other structures
  • Easy foot travel (with small climb) from any point to any other point in or around the layout
  • Easy lateral expandability in support of our open source goals for adaptability to individual needs
  • Central pond for water storage, aesthetic benefit, edible water plants, and wading/swimming
  • Storage area for tools and equipment between the 2 Zen Aquapinis
  • Plans for a removable dock to assist with functionality for this space as an amphitheater

ZEN AQUAPINI DESIGNS

Doug also completed the Zen Aquapini designs based off the ongoing and amazing consulting of Avery Ellis (Aquaponics Specialist and owner/operator of Integrated Aquaponics). In support of our open source goals, these combination aquapinis are purposed to provide a food production system that will be both functional and a beautiful place to relax or entertain people. Our goal with these is maximum food diversity and inspiring people to build these in their backyard as a way to produce a volume and diversity of food for all their family and friends (and several additional families) while also creating an aesthetically pleasing place to go and sit “in nature” even when it’s cold and uncomfortable outside. Notable features include:

  • Built-in water collection and storage
  • Integration of ground-based growing and aquaponics
  • Sloped South wall for maximum sun penetration in the winter
  • In-ground design for easier temperature control and lower above-ground profile
  • Built in water collection and storage for the entire structure

ZEN AQUAPINI GROW ZONES

We’re still designing the “zen” and beauty aspects of this structure but here are the grow zones we have to work with:

  • 4 Trees (darker green)
  • Media Beds (light green): 4 @ 8′ x 4′  = 128 sq feet of MB growing space
  • Deep Water Culture (blue): 11 rafts @ 4′ x 4′ = 176 sq feet of DWC growing space
  • Sloped Garden Area (Yellow): 600 sq feet (62′ x 9′ + 1/2 of a 10′ x 10′ square)
  • Drip System Garden Area (white): 48′ x 10′ = 480 sq feet
  • Corner Creeper Grow Zone (orange): 20′ x 1′ = 20 sq feet
  • Pond Surface Area: 50 sq feet
